ANIMAL OSTEOPATHY

Animal Osteopathy

Osteopaths can use a range of techniques to treat all aspects of your animal’s body – whether for an existing condition or for maintaining good physiology for competition animals.

What is Animal Osteopathy?

Osteopathy for animals is a highly integrated form of manual medicine for animals, it is founded on a solid understanding of functional medicine and osteopathic principles. Osteopaths identify the impact of both intrinsic and extrinsic factors on the animal’s health, and utilise a clinical process and osteopathic testing to localise the underlying cause of dis-ease.

All animal osteopaths work closely with veterinarians and other veterinary professionals so as to ensure the very best care for the animal. It is a legal requirement for all animal osteopaths in the UK to work under the guise of the Veterinary Surgeons Act (1966) and the Veterinary Surgeons (Exemptions) Order 2015.

Animal osteopaths are recognised as one of the three main clinical disciplines voluntarily regulated by the Register of Animal Musculoskeletal Practitioners (RAMP) in the UK.

The osteopath then can treat the whole being, from muscles and bones to the viscera (organs) as well as the nervous system.

    Competition and Maintenance Care

All animal osteopaths in the UK are now able to provide competition and maintenance care without prior veterinary consent but are still required by law to first speak to your animal’s veterinarian where there is a known underlying cause, or where signs of ill-health is evident during consultation.
